GROUND CONDITIONS

Pilbara unconsolidated detrital grounds with Pindan Clay.

CHALLENGES

– Drilling under the autonomous Haul Road required the road to be closed temporarily for the tracker to track the drill head.
– Having to be escorted everywhere also made the HDD process slow and challenging at times.
– The ground being drilled was a mixture of loose soils on sections with a mix of large boulders.

TEAM SUCCESS

– Despite having a small team and limited movement between each side of the shot, the team persevered and completed the shot safely and efficiently under the circumstances at play.
– Good communication between drill crew and client ensured the haul road closures were effectively coordinated.
– Working closely with the client to coordinate equipment utilisation for welding, rod basket changeouts and water cart usage.

DURATION

The total duration onsite was three months, from April to July, with 5:2 and 14:7 rosters utilised.
