INTRODUCTION

Boretech were tasked with a time critical HDD installation works at the Kenwick Rail station working in with the Rail upgrade works.

SCOPE

• Potholing of Existing Underground Services.

• 60 Meters of HDPE 630mm sleeve & install 6 x 110mm and 1 x 160mm HDPE pipes inside the sleeve.

• 3 x 12 Meter 355mm HDPE sleeves and install 2 x 110mm and 1 x 160mm in one, 3 x HDPE 110mm in two, and 3 x HDPE 110mm in the 3rd.

GROUND CONDITIONS

Encountered ground conditions were a mix or hard clays that were reactive (Swelling Clays) sections of Sand and a high water table.

CHALLENGES

The crew faced challenges of selecting the correct Mud mix for the ground encountered, with consultation with our product suppliers and experienced personnel within Boretech all providing advice and ideas on the best solutions.

Also the challenge of keeping supply of fluids up to the machine whilst reaming the larger size (650mm) running up to 50Gpm.

Accessing the installed pipe was achieved by the use of a Shoring box due to the required depth and ground conditions.

TEAM SUCCESS

The HDPE 630 Sleeve installation marked the largest installed pipe by the Operator! The machine used and the largest pipe installed by Boretech in the Perth Metro Area Region. The operator was able to utilise his vast experience in HDD works to ensure that he was comfortable with the cleaning / pre reaming prior to pulling in the pipe.
